Valeri Son Gefroh

Born May 2003, tuxedo-style. Val will lick your leg, then bite your nose when you least expect it. Beware of this cat. Especially if you’re delivering pizzas.

Chloe Monstér Nguyen-Gefroh

Born July 2004, half white, half tabby. Chloe is the worst sidekick a cat could ever have. Frequently hides for days at the mere thought of seeing another cat or human being. Or roach.

How they met:

Born in Northeast Minneapolis, Valeri traveled 1167 miles to meet his soul mate.

Born on the streets of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, Chloe endured four months on the streets before embracing the warm tremors of her partner’s purring.

On a brisk, October afternoon in foliage-laden Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, Val and Chloe were united!

Admittedly, the relationship sputtered at its inception. To be sure, Chloe was tender. Valeri, however, was reluctant to surrender his independence. Progress, regress, progress, regress. An encounter commenced with a few loving licks, followed by a hiss, a bite to the ear, and a swift paw to the forehead. Wrestling ensued until Chloe, defeated, sought refuge behind the washing machine. And two hours later, the vicious cycle would begin again.

But, alas, Chloe persevered! With unwavering resolve, she refused to take her paws of this noble, black and white beast. A new approach would give way to a more promising response, until pushed too far. Valeri, an astute observer, would eventually recognize the enchantment and resist, but each time the opposition weakened. Day and night, Chloe would labor (usually at night, causing objects to fall).

No longer able to reject Chloe’s charm, Valeri succumbed. Certainly, his stubbornness continued, to the extent that he would rarely allow a third party to behold his newfound devotion to Chloe. But if you approached them in stealth, you would witness their unity.

Indeed, Tom Petty was correct:

“Baby you got a heart so big

It could crush this town

And I can’t hold out forever

Even walls fall down”
